About Louise
Louise Handy discovered early on how being absorbed in movement helps to switch off from daily concerns, and continues to see what a difference "keeping moving" makes to our physical and mental health and well-being.
She has found a great balance between the sciences and the arts all her life, and combines her knowledge of the life/health sciences with her joy in moving and performing. She started dancing at the age of 2 and hasn't stopped since.
Practicing yoga gradually took a greater part in Louise's life and as a life-long learner she continues to enjoy diving ever deeper into the spiritual, emotional and mental elements as well as the physical aspects.
Louise is a Yoga Alliance registered E-RYT® 200 Experienced Yoga Teacher, and a YACEP Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider in all their categories of: 💜 Techniques, Training & Practice, 💜Teaching Methodology, 💜Anatomy & Physiology, and 💜Yoga Philosophy, Lifestyle & Ethics. Her initial 200hr Yoga Alliance teacher training included not only a solid physical/anatomical foundation but also meditation and philosophical aspects of yoga, which Louise enjoys gently incorporating into classes. On her hatha and vinyasa flow background, she has completed additional accredited certifications in Yoga Nidra, Yin Yoga and in Movement & Yoga for those with special needs and medical conditions.

As an experienced business woman, in 2018 she established and continues to run Space to Move in Plymouth with Jules Laville as a way to help share this important, but simple, ethos to every body. Based in the Tamar Valley in Cornwall, she also holds classes for the local community there, spreading the benefits of yoga to all, matching styles and techniques appropriately to each group or individual.
About Essential Yoga
Through Essential Yoga activities, Louise aims to spread the sense of wellness and peace which yoga inspires, whilst providing a physical practice to strengthen and stretch every body. With a variety of approaches to meet your needs, working with your body, no matter what age, gender, level of fitness or experience, Louise works with each person to help support physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. Tailoring classes and private sessions to those present, Louise weaves the changing seasons and natural environment into each class, drawing on multiple spiritual influences as inspiration. As well as regular local community and studio based classes, Louise also enjoys providing yoga and nidra sessions to retreats, festivals and corporate events, such as the Surya Yoga Festival and Tamar Valley River Festival.
